Your New Favorite Tool to Harness Mindfulness for Emotional Regulation

Are You Holding It In…Or Letting It Flow?

(How to practice emotional regulation through expression)

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned how to hold things in. We learned how to keep moving despite what we feel. How to perform, push through, and show up— even when something inside of us is asking to be acknowledged. And without even realizing it…we begin to clog. We clog our thoughts. Our emotions. Our needs.

What Does It Mean to “Clog It”?

Clogging isn’t just avoidance—it’s accumulation. It looks like saying “I’m fine” when you’re not, avoiding hard conversations, overworking to distract, or holding tension in your body without release. Over time, what we don’t release builds and shows up as overwhelm, irritability, anxiety, and feeling stuck. You're not broken—you’re just full. And what you need is some emotional regulation.

What Does It Mean to “Blog It”?

To “blog it” is to express. It’s choosing to let things move through you instead of staying stuck within you. This can look like journaling, speaking honestly, crying, moving your body, or talking with someone safe. It’s not about perfection—it’s about permission.

A Moment to Unclog

Take a slow breath in… and out. Ask yourself: What have I been holding onto? Gently remind yourself: I don’t have to hold everything in.

Imagine creating space inside of you, like opening a window in a closed room. Let something small release. Just something.

You don’t have to fix everything today. But you can begin. One thought. One feeling. One moment of release.

Because healing isn’t about holding it all together— it’s about learning when it’s safe to let it go.
