Maya Burnett

Masters-level Clinician

Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern

Hello, my name is Maya, and I’m glad you are here. Seeking help is not easy, nor is navigating it alone. One of the keys that unlock inner healing is learning how to be mindful about what shapes our perceptions.

I know firsthand the complexities of navigating multiple identities and the unique challenges that come with balancing motherhood, career, and self-care, often leaving us to feel unbalanced and dysregulated. As a bi-racial female, I bring both personal insight and professional training to my work. With almost three years of clinical experience and 40-plus years of life experience, I’m passionate about helping individuals heal from issues such as anxiety, relationship issues, substance use, and patterns that no longer serve them.

I aspire to provide an inclusive space for biracial individuals, Black communities, and single mothers, to name a few. My approach is grounded in culturally responsive, trauma-informed care that honors each client’s unique background, challenges, and strengths.

My Approach

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that every part of you has a story worth understanding. My counseling approach is warm, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support clients in building self-awareness, emotional regulation, and inner harmony.

At Mindful Perceptions, I offer a safe space to explore your inner world, untangle past pain, and reconnect with your core Self. I’m here to support you with evidence-based strategies and deep curiosity. I strive to create a compassionate, judgement-free space where clients feel seen, safe, and supported, whether they’re exploring identity, processing life transitions, healing from trauma, or seeking emotional clarity.

Allow me to help you build the bridge that you walk over towards understanding and healing. Together, we’ll explore your inner world, shift unhelpful patterns, and build tools that empower you to move forward with more clarity and confidence.

About Me

I’m a lover of music, writing, reading, spending time with genuine and authentic beings, trying new foods and learning about others’ cultures and stories. I am committed to being a lifelong learner as well as an advocate for mental wellness.

Growing up with a single mom and seeing the need for therapy in marginalized communities, I have a personal stake in the importance of multicultural inclusion and competence. I believe that understanding helps bridge the gap.

I completed my undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida with concentrations in Psychology, Sociology and Women and Gender Studies. I graduated with honors with my Master’s degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Healing doesn’t mean changing who you are. It means reconnecting with who you’ve always been.

You bring the courage, I’ll bring the tools.

My purpose is to help every part of you feel seen and supported.
